About This Specialization
Fostering Self-Regulation in Body and Mind
Evidence-based biofeedback for teens and adults in Petaluma — practical mind-body skills that help you understand and regulate the connection between nervous system, emotions, and physical health.
Biofeedback is an evidence-based approach to improving both mental and physical health, with decades of research supporting its effectiveness for conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, panic attacks, chronic stress, migraines, pain, and other stress-related concerns. I provide biofeedback therapy for teens and adults in Petaluma, using evidence-based techniques that help clients better understand and regulate the connection between the mind and body.

During biofeedback sessions, you'll learn practical mind-body skills that allow you to observe and influence your body's physiological responses in real time. As you develop these skills, you can improve emotional regulation, reduce the impact of stress, and build greater resilience, supporting lasting improvements in your mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
As a psychologist specializing in mind-body health and wellness, I integrate biofeedback into treatment because it offers a practical, evidence-based way to help clients better understand how their nervous system responds to stress. Biofeedback may be used as a standalone treatment or combined with neurofeedback and psychotherapy, depending on your individual needs and goals. My approach is always personalized, collaborative, and focused on helping you achieve meaningful, long-term change.
I offer biofeedback to children, teens, and adults throughout Petaluma and the greater North Bay, and I am currently accepting new biofeedback clients.
What is Biofeedback?
“Biofeedback is a process that enables an individual to learn how to change physiological activity for the purpose of improving health and performance. Precise instruments measure physiological activity, such as heart function, breathing, muscle activity, and skin temperature. These instruments rapidly and accurately "feed back" information to the user. The presentation of this information — often in conjunction with changes in thinking, emotions, and behavior — supports desired physiological changes. Over time, these changes can endure without continued use of an instrument.”
How Does Biofeedback Work?
During a biofeedback session, sensors are placed on the body — on the finger, ear lobe, or forehead — to read and record the body's physiological functioning. This information is run through computer software that translates that functioning into visual or auditory feedback the client can use to consciously influence their physiology. Biofeedback allows clients to observe how stress, emotions, and thoughts affect the body, and learn skills to restore balance and regulation.
With practice both in and out of session, the client learns how to achieve an optimal level of physiological functioning, which then becomes the client's new baseline. Many psychological and physical symptoms are associated with habitual physiological reactions that, with the help of biofeedback, come under the conscious control of the person. Biofeedback pairs nicely with neurofeedback, which is how I use it in my practice.

Types of Biofeedback
Biofeedback modalities tailored to your needs
There are several different biofeedback modalities used for various health conditions. I offer those listed here, often in conjunction with neurofeedback, to support the body's ability to regulate itself more effectively.
Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback
Building calm through the rhythm between heartbeats
HRV biofeedback trains the rhythm between heartbeats to build calm, resilience, and parasympathetic activation — supporting emotional regulation and stress recovery.
Galvanic Skin Response Biofeedback
Recognizing and reducing stress arousal
GSR biofeedback uses skin conductance to help you recognize moments of stress arousal and learn to reduce them — building awareness of the mind-body stress response.
Temperature Training Biofeedback
Shifting out of fight-or-flight
Thermal biofeedback trains you to warm your hands and extremities, signaling the nervous system to shift out of fight-or-flight and into a calmer, more regulated state.
Electromyography (EMG) Biofeedback
Releasing muscle tension tied to stress and pain
EMG biofeedback measures muscle activity to help you release chronic tension held in the body — often linked to stress, headaches, and chronic pain conditions.
Heart Rate Biofeedback
Training a slower, steadier heart under stress
When the body is stressed, the sympathetic nervous system increases heart rate. Heart rate biofeedback trains a slower heart rate, encouraging parasympathetic activation and rest-and-digest dominance.
Respiratory Biofeedback
Retraining breathing to regulate the nervous system
Respiratory biofeedback helps you retrain breathing patterns that contribute to anxiety and dysregulation — supporting deeper, more effective breath and nervous system balance.
