Integrative Approaches to Mental Health & Wellness

Neurofeedback in Petaluma, Sonoma County, & the Northbay

Neurofeedback training has been used therapeutically since the late 1960's for problems associated with the central nervous system to improve mental health and emotional well-being. Brain research shows that when the brain is dysregulated due to stress, trauma, medical issues, injury, or genetic factors, it can fall into maladaptive patterns of overactive, underactive, or unstable brainwave activity. These stuck patterns of maladaptive firing contribute to symptoms such as depression, anxiety, inattention, hyperactivity, irritability, sleep issues/insomnia, chronic pain, and difficulties with emotional regulation.

Neurofeedback - supported by well over 2,000 peer-reviewed studies - helps the brain out of these stuck cycles into healthier, more flexible and stable functioning. By providing real-time feedback to your brain about it's own activity, neurofeedback gently encourages the brain to move toward more balanced patterns. Over time, these changes support lasting improvements in mood, focus, resilience, calm, and overall psychological and physical health.

I am a seasoned neurofeedback clinician, psychologist, and depth psychotherapist with over 5,000 neurofeedback sessions completed in the past decade. I offer advanced, evidence-based neurofeedback and mind-body therapies to children, adolescents, adults, and elders throughout Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Novato, Sebastopol, and the greater Sonoma and Marin County regions.

– Emily Dickinson

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a drug-free, non-invasive therapy that uses cutting-edge EEG technology to measure and train brainwave patterns. This process identifies dysregulated brainwave activity; provides immediate feedback through visual, auditory, tactile, and pulsed frequency signals; reinforces the brain for shifting into healthier patterns; and helps restore balance, stability, calm, focus, and emotional regulation.

Because neurofeedback works directly with the central and autonomic nervous systems, it pairs effectively with. biofeedback and other mind-body therapies.

Both research and clinical practice suggests that neurofeedback may be helpful for symptoms associated with a broad range of mental health, neurodevelopmental, neurocognitive, and physiological concerns, all of which can be explained in terms of patterns of brain dysregulation. Neurofeedback can be especially helpful when traditional psychotherapy and traditional medical care is not enough, or when clients prefer a drug-free treatment option.

– Frank Duffy, M.D., Professor & Pediatric Neurologist at Harvard.

Neurofeedback with Children & Teens

Families in Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, and surrounding Sonoma and Marin County communities regularly seek neurofeedback to support long-lasting emotional, behavioral, and academic growth.

Benefits of Integrative Approaches to Mind-Body Wellness

Sonoma County Therapist

Below are a handful of graphs showing some of the progress made by an 8-year-old client with a highly sensitive nervous system, birth trauma, AD/HD, anxiety, and emotional reactivity. After just 30 neurofeedback training sessions, the client and his family noted remarkable improvements. Note that physical issues, such as bedwetting, constipation, and seasonal allergies also improved during training.
