Neurofeedback Modality
For the Gentle Resolution of Trauma, Addiction, & Unwanted Behavior
Alpha-Theta Neurofeedback
Deep relaxation states that support trauma processing, addiction recovery, improved calm, peak performance, and behavioral change.
Alpha-Theta Neurofeedback guides the brain into naturally occurring deep, relaxing states where alpha and theta brainwave activity become more prominent. These states are commonly associated with meditation, creativity, restorative sleep, emotional processing, and access to deeper subconscious material.
Unlike traditional neurofeedback, Alpha-Theta training is less about improving attention or performance and more about helping the nervous system learn to downshift into calm and safely process emotional experiences that may be difficult to access through conversation alone.
In my practice, Alpha-Theta follows ILF and other forms of neurofeedback to ensure the brain is ready for deeper work, to support trauma resolution, addiction recovery, emotional healing, or improvement in long-standing stress patterns.

Brain States
Throughout the day, our brains naturally shift between different brainwave patterns depending on what we are doing.
Alpha brainwaves are commonly associated with calm awareness, relaxed attention, creativity, and reflective thinking.
Theta brainwaves become more prominent during deep meditation, dreaming, and the moments just before falling asleep or waking.
Alpha-Theta Neurofeedback gently guides the brain toward this naturally occurring transition, allowing emotional material to be processed in a safe, deeply relaxed state.
Many clients describe Alpha-Theta training as feeling similar to a deeply restorative meditation.
Alpha-Theta training works with two naturally occurring brain states that support calm awareness and deeper emotional processing.

Alpha-Theta Neurofeedback is always integrated thoughtfully into an individualized treatment plan and may not be appropriate for every client.

Helping support the nervous system during trauma-informed treatment.
Encouraging deeper relaxation and emotional regulation.
Often incorporated into comprehensive addiction recovery programs.
Helping the brain access restorative relaxation states.
Supporting creativity, resilience, and mental clarity.
Useful for meditation, self-exploration, and increasing emotional awareness.

Clinical Approach
Alpha-Theta Neurofeedback is not a standalone intervention. Instead, I often incorporate it into a broader neurofeedback plan after the nervous system has developed enough stability through ILF or other forms of neurofeedback.
For many individuals, this combination creates an opportunity to process difficult emotional experiences more safely while strengthening resilience and nervous system regulation.
Treatment is always individualized based on your assessment, history, and clinical goals.
Research continues to explore Alpha-Theta Neurofeedback in areas including trauma recovery, addiction treatment, emotional regulation, creativity, and performance optimization.
Like all neurofeedback approaches, Alpha-Theta works by supporting the brain's natural capacity for neuroplasticity and self-regulation rather than suppressing symptoms directly.
